Sadly, mental health is a major issue in society that we are unprepared for. The number of active shooters and acts of terrorism are happening weekly around the United States and we have to prepare for the worst. Having the proper most up-to-date training equipment and yearly training is key to success. Our goal is to provide this equipment to the communities without tax dollars or budget issues that many agencies cannot afford.
Since 2015, Brown County and surrounding communities throughout Northeast Wisconsin have been training their public safety personnel to respond towards active threats of many different types. An example in 2019, a hands-on training was conducted at the Resch Center and over 700+ first responders attended. Our biggest challenge with this type of training is to provide the public safety responders with as “realistic” of a learning opportunity as possible. Within this challenge, is the ability to offer bleeding control and other ALS skill development. Bleeding control is one of the most important skills to build-upon relating to Active Threat incidents. What can we do to enhance this skill? By providing training mannequins that can bleed. As a result, students can apply tourniquets’ adequately vs. applying them to human participants and thus lacking adequate application. We now know due to so many Active Threat incidents nationwide, we as first responders need to intervene as quickly as possible in coordination with Law Enforcement. The days of waiting are a direct result of death. The FBI has been collecting data for some time now which is the driving force in our training - https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/active-shooter-incidents-in-the-us-2020-070121.pdf/view.
We are seeking general funding to provide scenario-based, intergraded response courses to counter active shooter threats or actives of terrorism against individuals or facilities. Major contributors will have their family name or business displayed on our trailer and equipment as a special thank you for your support.
